Pasteio in Paddington: A Haven for Italian Pasta and Sweets

Craving for some pasta but don’t feel like preparing it yourself? If you want to keep it simple by choosing quick-cooking recipes, check out Pasteio in Rosalie where you can find ready-made pasta and sauces you can eat at home or on the spot.

Occupying a tiny retail space on the corner of Ellena St and Fernberg Rd, Pasteio is a bracingly minimal space, warmed up by 1960s-inspired block of bricks and mustard-yellow signage.

With pasta handcrafted daily on-site, it’s difficult to say no to its diverse incarnations on the menu. This pasta artisan shop makes pasta originated from both the South and North of Italy using grano duro and grano tenero flours respectively.

The menu features a handful of simple antipasti and some 60 pasta recipes, with everything from the nourishing organic buckwheat pasta to tagliolini, which are fine-cut organic egg pasta strands.

Pasteio has its own cafe, which opened barely a year ago. Don’t forget to try their gnocchi with truffle butter then save some space for sweets like torta della nonna which is creme and pine nut torta.

The lineup of fresh sauces and sweet treats changes every week, though you can expect ragû and other classics on the fire all the time.

New York Deli Inspired Restaurant Opens in Paddington

If pastrami is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word “deli,” you’ve got to visit Reuben’s Deli & Bar, the freshly opened New York deli restaurant in Paddington.

The menu covers the requisite Jewish soul food standards such as house-smoked pastrami on rye bread and bagel with a schmear of cream cheese, but owners Manny and Peggy Rosenberg added some twist by throwing in some German, Italian and Latino cuisines into the mix.

A short stroll from the Suncorp Stadium, Reuben’s Deli & Bar now occupies the space once occupied by Little Social, which was known for its comfortable, no-fancy, and relaxed vibe.

Around 70 percent of the menu consists of the classic NY deli dishes, whilst the rest include fettuccine and meatballs, lamb shank, and jambalaya, a classic Louisiana rice dish.

The husband and wife tandem grew up with sandwiches, subs, and hoagies and wanted to bring these New York favourites to Brisbane.

But if sandwiches, subs and hoagies aren’t your thing, you can order burgers served on toasted potato buns and with a zesty dill pickle spear. They have vegetarian burgers and gluten-free burger buns you can have on request.

This restaurant is not just serving mouthwatering dishes. Reuben’s casual bistro atmosphere is also the perfect spot for a happy hour gathering with friends and work colleagues.

They have eight craft beers on tap: Bacchus, Green Beacon, Ballistic, Balter, Mountain Goat and Brick Lane.

Modern European Restaurant Opens in Paddington

Paddington’s restaurant scene will liven up with the addition of Nota, a sophisticated diner and bar offering modern European cuisine inspired by the best of local and seasonal produce.

Located in Given Terrace, in a space that was once occupied by French restaurant Montrachet, Nota has an inviting and warm ambiance, with exposed brick walls and rustic-themed interiors.

Not only is it nice to come here for the relaxing vibe, the food has also been getting a warm reception from impressed visitors. Barely into its first month, Nota has already been receiving rave reviews from locals, for offerings like the warm lamb salad and slow-cooked octopus.

Apart from gastronomic delights designed to whet your appetite, Nota also has cocktails, small-batch wines, and a selection of local beers curated by Matt Kirkegaard for that perfect post-work getaway with friends.

A brainchild of Cheese Platter owner Sebastiaan de Kort and business partner Kevin Docherty, the restaurant’s name literally means “familiar” in Latin. The owners wanted to create an environment where guests can share a meal with their nearest and dearest without the confinement of fine dining etiquette.

Nota is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays for dinner, from 5:00 pm until late and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 am to 3pm and 5pm until late.
